Laura:
We came back to your cattery because of Rudy, our Tonkinese. We decided to adopt a
british shorthair, whom we call Sam, after losing our second cat of 14 years to
illness. They have become best buds (with occasional sibling rivalry). Sam follows
me around, and when he wants attention, he pats me on the leg. He is definitely
into food, and as soon as I start preparing dinner, he is right there watching
intently from a nearby chair. Rudy is still special, loving, and with us even after
a scare in August when he almost died from a reaction to medicine given to him by a
vet. I can't imagine our loves without both of them. They are my happy, well bred
adopted children. If anything happened to either one, (hopefully, not for years) I
wouldn't hesitate to return to your cattery. Thanks for our boys. |

Laura:
You may recall that our daughter, Jenni, visited you and selected our kitten. Our
Pearl is more than we hoped for! She grows more affectionate each day. She is
perfectly trained, never any accidents. She loves to travel. She loves to eat. She
even loves to have her nails clipped - simply lays in Hattie's arms and enjoys. Her
coat has darkened and her points are great. We brush her daily.
I surmise you may have guessed we are happy "parents"! |
All the best,
Bob H. |

These are our
two perfect cats that we adopted from the Hunt's. The blue is named "Shadow Marie",
and the blue/creme is "Baby Butter".
These two cats are highly intelligent, playful, social, and very well-mannered. It
is our great delight to have them join our family. Hardly pets, they are our
companions and friends, and we look forward to adopting a third kitten from Laura
this spring.
Everyone who visits us remarks both upon the robust beauty of these cats, as well as
upon the cats' wonderful personalities.

Laura and Gary:
This letter is long over due. Our boys will be one year old on February 25.
I never thought that I could be as silly as I am with these two. They are the
warmest, most loving pets we have ever had. We cannot thank you enough for
allowing them to come into our lives. I would like to adopt several more but
I don't think Ron will allow it. |
|
|
I am attaching pictures of them. They were the first to receive your t-shirts and
their baby picture is on your website with the shirts on. As you can see, they have
long ago out grown them, but they have turned into beautiful adults.
We have a 20 month old grandson, and the first thing he does when he comes into the
house is yell 'Boys, where are you?' They follow him around constantly.
Champaign Wishes (Champ) allows him to do whatever he wants. They give each other
kisses. Blue Caviar Dreams (Blue) follows, but stays just out of reach of the little
hands.
Thank you again. I hope you are both doing well.

This is Betty
in Alaska. Nelson and I are the parents to two of your Tonks that we named Ming and
Munch.
Just thought I'd let you know they're both doing great at 3 years old. Munch, the
Champagne Mink, turned 3 years on Feb 2nd and looks like a natural mink now. Munch
ended up being the one with the big attitude. She really lets us know when she's not
happy with our decisions. (Does that mean she's a teenager?) Ming is a Platinum Mink
that the TICA judges insist on calling a Lilac Mink. Ming had her 3rd birthday Dec
21st and is our kitty with the most beautiful heart. Something has to make her VERY
unhappy before she let's us know. She's the easy going one of the two, but we love
them both so much!
I also wanted to let you know that we placed Ming in her first cat show this last
weekend (TICA, is the only type of show they have in Anchorage - and only one show
per year!). She did okay, considering our lack of knowledge of shows, etc. |
|
|
However, we were not up on all the tricks for preparing our baby for the show.
We bathed her, which we probably didn't have to do. We cleaned her eyes and booty,
checked her ears and teeth. But we didn't think about how to help her adjust to the
activity noise level of a show. Consequently, by the end of the second day, she was
letting everyone who touched her know that she wasn't happy about this arrangement!
This is how she did our of 12 "Rings":
She placed 4 out of 12 (the judges names after each win)
4th Best All Breed Alter from P. Barrett
5th Best Specialty Show Alter from A. Rhea
3rd Best Specialty Show Alter from S. Bucknell
Best Specialty Show Alter from P. Barrett
One more thing I should mention: there were no other Tonkinese in the show and there
were only seven in Ming's category. So Ming received an unchallenged Best of Breed
and Best of Color - not what Nelson and I really wanted, as we would have liked to
have seen how she did with some competition. We thought maybe we might try another
show sometime when we are traveling through a community that has a larger cat show,
to see how she would compete.
Munch wasn't placed in the show because she is still overweight. When she started to
gain weight after the problems we had when she was on Royal Canin food (you might
remember that we thought we were going to lose her because she was losing so much
weight and throwing up so much), we were just glad that she was able to eat and keep
it down. I don't know how much overweight she is, but I knew the judges wouldn't score
her too well, plus she's so easily upset with changes in her environment, that Nelson
and I just didn't want to rock her boat!
Anyway, I thought you might like to know that the girls are doing well and loved more
each day then the day before. In fact, we live in THEIR house!
Smiles from Alaska,
Betty and Nelson

Hello Laura and Gary:
I finally got around to sending you some pictures of our babies. As you can see, we
have a new edition to our clan. It's been a year since we purchased our tonk and I
can't say enough about how wonderful she is. She plays an important role in our family.
I recently had a baby (New Year's Day), and her name is Morgan. Anytime Morgan cried
or grunted "Bailey" was right there to see if she was okay. Bailey likes to take naps
and cuddle up next to her, to keep her warm. Now, if I could only train her to give
her a bottle, she'd be a great baby-sitter!
A wonderful thing about Bailey is that I don't have to worry about the cat hair
around the new baby. And my toddler, Lakelyn, she just loves her kitty! Bailey
lets her do anything to her and she just lays there taking it. Bailey has all of her
claws and hasn't scratched her once. Lakelyn can love on her kitty a little rough.
I couldn't have picked a better cat or breed. I love my Bailey. She follows me around
the house like a dog. She's always there. I have accidentally locked her in a room.
She cried, asking for help. Other than that, she doesn't meow. I like to play hide and
go seek. I run from her and hide around the corner. When she comes around the corner,
I scare her. It makes her tail puff out if I catch her off guard. She usually knows
how to play the game. When I walk away she bats me on my leg. She is such a loving
cat. Anyone who comes over to my house, Bailey greets. She makes you pet her. Even if
you didn't like cats, Bailey would make you like her. She is a lap cat, and not just
to me everyone that walks through our door. I would recommend you as a breeder and
the breed to anyone. It's worth the money. A cat who care for people - priceless!

Laura:
I'm sorry I didn't finish my email. With the kids, it's hard to get anything
done around here. My name is Amy and I work for the airlines (Spirit). Do you
remember me?
It was a year ago since we purchased our "baby". Next to my two girls and husband,
Bailey's one of my greatest loves! I can't say enough about how wonderful she is.
She's sitting next to my keyboard watching me type. She's very interested in what
you're doing. She sits on the edge of the bathtub as I take a bath. She watches me
get ready to go out. She's always there.
I told my husband, if anything ever happened to me, he'd better take good care of my
cat! He's not a cat person and hates to admit he likes her. She's always sleeping on
him. I make him admit he likes her.
I want to thank you for allowing me to purchase one of your kittens. She has brought
me so much joy.

Misha is
absolutely the best gift I've ever gotten for myself. She keeps me laughing all the
time. And, not to mention, loves getting me up at 6AM every morning, whether I get to
sleep in or not. Her favorite thing seems to be playing fetch with little fuzzy mice.
I didn't even have to teach her. She's quite the toddler at the moment! As you can
see in the photo - stuck her tongue out the second I took the picture!

Dear Laura:
As you know, my home burned down February 18. We lost everything we owned, including our pets. We thank God that we made it out alive. My two daughters and I had to jump from the second floor and the fire fighters said that they could not believe anyone made it out alive, due to how quickly the fire spread. Within minutes the entire house was ablaze.
As much as I was so very grateful that my family escaped and are rebuilding our lives, rather then feeling the immense pain of losing family members, I missed my animals:
My daughter had an eight-year-old cat that was like her best friend. He slept on her backpack when she was doing homework, laid on the side of the bathtub when she was taking baths, etc. They were inseparable. I had a two and a half year old Oriental named Moses, who was my love.
After the fire, the aching in my heart, and my daughter’s heart, was immense. She and I would cry daily because they were such big parts of our lives. Our cats would sleep with us every night, and after they died, we would wake up nightly looking to hold them - only to realize that they were not there. People would try to comfort us by telling us how lucky we are that the family all survived. And we are very lucky. But the broken heart from the loss of our animals haunted us every minute of every day.
When we looked for another kitten, we called you. I really didn't know that much about Tonkinese, but you assured me that these cats were great, and I would be more then happy with the breed’s personality. You told me that they were special, and I felt that you meant it, but were partial to what you breed.
After bringing Jeter home and getting over the first day adjustment with being a little shy, this wonderful kitten not only adapted quickly to the family, but became the reason my family is healing from the loss we had. He is the most loving kitten I have ever owned, and I've had many pets in my life.
Now, instead of waking up at night and crying as I did so many times after the fire, I wake up to Jeters little face next to mine. Instead of crying when I feel the loss, I find myself smiling when I see him. He is so loving! His place is the bedroom pillow, between my husband and me. He isn't a cat; he's like a little person. I can’t put into words how this kitten has helped my family. Everyone in my family is in love with Jeter. He has personality plus, and is non-stop love! Just what my family and I needed!
I am crying as I type this letter; not because I’m sad, but because Jeter is snuggled on my lap and I am so very happy with him. It feels so good to have that horrible aching in my heart stop - and that's the result of Jeter being part of my family!
I read information on Tonkinese. There is a line in one book describing their personalities, and states it perfectly: “Tonkinese love human interaction and make a perfect family companion. You will only realize the love of a Tonk when you hold them in your arms and feel it for yourself.”
I want to thank you and your husband for doing such a great job breeding these wonderful kittens. You were both so caring to us when we came to your home. You made us feel like you sincerely felt our loss and you wanted to help us. After we brought Jeter home, no matter what was going on in your life, every time I called you, you always took time to answer and help. Jeter is way beyond what I had expected, and I credit you for breeding such a wonderful animal, and for helping me and my family heal our loss!
With love,
Cindy M
PS I almost forgot to tell you about this: every time Jeter goes to his food bowl to
eat, he takes his ducky (the Beanie Baby one) and puts it into the bowl. Then he eats.
It’s so funny, almost like he thinks he’s feeding his ducky!

Hello there, Laura:
We got Jeter
from you after our home burned down in Feb. The house fire nightmare is almost all
over. We are going to move into our new home this week!
Jeter is WONDERFUL! I just have one question though: my little love plays with the
beanie baby duck you gave him so much that he tore off his head. Can you let me know
where I can get beanie babies from? |
|
|
When I go on the computer, Jeter lays on the top and patiently waits for me to get
off and give him attention, as you can see in the picture I sent to you! Such a great
cat!
Much Love,
Cindy M

Laura:
I have to share this with you. Everynight when I come home, Elvis is always waiting
by the back door for me. Many times Jessie is there, also. Cy used to do this. I
believe he is looking down and telling them what to do. These two guys have filled in
the void, although I still miss him so much. The letter from Cindy shows just how
much joy and love Tonks can bring to a home.
Take care and say hi to Gary.
