Buyer Beware: Not all catteries are created equal!

Buying your kitten from a responsible breeder is one step in getting off to the best possible
start with your new family member. It is Innocentia Cattery’s goal to always maintain high
ethical and moral standards so that we may provide you with a satisfying sales experience. After
all, some day, we will all need to answer to a higher power.
Innocentia Cattery understands the magnitude of good business ethics because, as occasional
purchasers, we have sometimes been faced with unscrupulous, unprofessional “breeders” who do not
stand behind their products, have diseased catteries and, thus, unhealthy kittens. Regrettably,
not all catteries behave with the high standards we supply to our clientele:
For breeding purposes, we had purchased what appeared to be a superior British Shorthair kitten.
When she arrived, we instantly fell in love, and then immediately brought her to our vet, for her
scheduled appointment. Sadly, he informed us that our kitten was diseased. Devastated, I phoned
the breeder we had purchased her from, to alert her to the news. Several months, and $3000.00
later, our beloved kitten passed. I cannot begin to express the heartache we felt over her loss.
Making our dilemma worse, when we telephoned the breeder with the news, she refused to reimburse
us the kitten’s purchasing price, and then hid behind the phone, avoiding all further calls.
Unfortunately, such situations are all too common.
